Mohammad Rizwan issues an Ultimatum to PCB

An abrupt New Zealand tour earlier this year saw the PCB adjust its plans. Barring the ‘older names’ such as Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam from the five-match T2OI series was described as a recruitment decision “to give young talent a chance.” This would now see Agha Salman getting the captaincy role, yet another fresh name in captaincy. Rizwan, however, did not accept the decision quietly.

Now Rumor Has It That Rizwan Gave PCB An Ultimatum.” Give me the power or …” the rest is implied. He has not openly threatened to step aside from the game but, the wording is clear this is that he wants clarity on his role or may choose to think out his future in Pakistan’s T20 setup. He is also meeting with Babar Azam to see PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi about their exclusion and future involvement in the National Side. The senior duo wants some exposure and input into where the team is headed.

It isn’t just one player needing attention; It’s a bigger issue: communication and a vision clear for cricket in Pakistan. Rizwan has been one of the most reliable players in T20 for Pakistan. The accolades have been for his passion, hard work, and leadership. The very fact that he has had to put out such strong words speaks volumes about the going on in the internal environment.

Fans and their mixed feelings some are upset with the realities of changing team management and others want it to continue because of the need to groom talent ahead of the T20 World Cup.

This PCB is worried about senior players like Rizwan and Babar because if they don’t do so, it is only going to open much larger cracks inside the dressing room. Not just names on a team sheet, these are pillars of modern Pakistan cricket. Transition smoothens the experience with the company of youth. At this moment, everyone is on the roll, waiting for the interaction between Rizwan and the Chairman of PCB.
